Mounds Park Academy seeks a creative, collaborative, and dedicated part-time Upper School Dean beginning July 1, 2022. Successful candidates should be student-centered and have a deep appreciation and understanding of upper school students and be committed to fostering an environment within which students are valued, accepted, included, and supported by members of the school community. The Upper School Dean will work in collaboration with the Division Director and Upper School Administrative Team to develop student programming and activities while developing a positive and supportive culture that unites the upper school student community. Candidates must demonstrate a dedication to collaborating with upper school faculty and other academic leaders and will share the collective responsibility of establishing a culture that is conducive to all members of the community feeling a sense of value and belonging. The Upper School Dean consistently will engage with students, colleagues, and families.
Based on candidate experience and alignment with teaching responsibilities, this position will be either:
- A .5 FTE 9 – 12 grade position
- A .2 FTE 9/10 grade position
- A .2 FTE 11/12 grade position

It is expected that a successful candidate will contribute to the following areas:
Community and School Culture
- Establish a consistent presence in and around the upper school where students are accepted, respected, and valued
- Collaborate with the upper school faculty to develop a positive culture of belonging and to support students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being
Student Affairs
- Oversee and coordinate the advisory program, including the development of advisory programming and communicating advisor expectations
- Facilitate consistent communication with families, specifically around student academic concerns, plans, and progress
- Liaise with families to support social-emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges
- Serve as an Upper School advisor
Leadership and Service
- Serve on the Upper School Administrative Team
- Collaborate with the Upper School Administrative Team and school-wide administrators to coordinate dates for grade level and divisional activities.
- Partner closely with the Upper School CARE Team to help maintain the health and safety of students
- Collaborate with the Upper School Administrative Team and faculty to develop student events, orientations, and activities that are engaging and build community
General
- Serve as a member of the upper school faculty
- Support and reinforce MPA’s mission, vision, and values and help students to align their actions to those goals
Successful candidates should have:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a school setting
- Previous independent school experience preferred
