Job Summary: Malvern Prep is seeking a highly visible educational leader who demonstrates a commitment to our Augustinian mission and is passionate about serving all students. The Head of Academics is directly responsible for the coaching, growth and evaluation of all Faculty through a distributed leadership model. They are also responsible for the oversight and support of the Faculty Academy Leaders, Director of College Counseling, as well as key instructional roles including, but not limited to the Lead of Curriculum, Lead of Media Lab, Lead Scheduler, and AP Coordinators. The ideal candidate is an outstanding leader and manager of adults, who believes and invests in developing talent, while possessing a strong understanding of academic rigor and effective instruction.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree is required; Master’s degree in Education or other appropriate subject matter is preferred.
- 8-10 years prior experience as a school leader at the Administrator level is preferred.
- Must have held a position of school leadership within secondary education.
- Evidence of a commitment to a team-based environment
Essential Duties:
School Leadership & Operations
- Serves as a member of the St. Ambrose Team to develop and implement the total school program so that all students, parents, teachers and staff are well-supported.
- Academically leads the Upper and Middle schools and other related departments by executing the vision, strategy, goals and plans for the school.
- Supports the Director of College Counseling and the needs of the College Counseling Team.
- Embodies and advocates for the mission of the school; monitors and addresses all matters of school climate, values and culture.
- Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards, acting as a role model, demonstrating the importance of learning and pride in the education profession.
- Keeps up-to-date with innovative developments and trends in school operations, administration, and education.
- Makes the most of all opportunities to continue developing as an administrator and educator. Acts to remain professionally competent and upgrades own leadership capability.
- Manages instructional budget.
- Oversees summer programming along with the Head of Student Leadership
Faculty Leadership
- Leads all faculty members who work in the Upper and Middle Schools, either directly or indirectly.
- Guides, inspires and motivates faculty to perform at their very best. Recruits and strives to retain talented faculty.
- Involves faculty members in decisions that impact their work.
- Advocates for faculty concerns, issues and problems by representing them, as necessary, to the appropriate administrator.
- Collaborates with co-workers in many forums and venues to share expertise and to achieve the mission of the school. Promotes collegial and collaborative environments in others.
Educational Leadership
- Provides leadership for the Upper and Middle schools, ensuring high standards of achievement for students, along with a motivational and aspirational culture where teaching, learning and healthy relationships thrive.
- Oversees the development of instructional objectives and ensures they are in line with the school's educational vision and objectives.
- Co-teaches the Social Entrepreneurship Class.
Communications, Involvement & Relationships
- Proactively acts as a community liaison and supports public relations and fundraising activities.
- Provides opportunities for parents to partner in the learning process of students and enlists their support in school activities.
- Is visible to students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders. Encourages all faculty to do the same.
- Actively participates in various meetings, such as academy, department, faculty, administration, parent, and school meetings.
- Builds and maintains school system communication. Communicates information within the organization and to the broader community by telephone, in written form, e-mail, in meetings, and/or in person to keep them apprised of the overall operation, progress, issues, and successes of the school.
- Builds and maintains a professional rapport with students, parents and all other staff.
