Overview
Serving approximately 185 students in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade, Dutchess Day School is seeking an experienced full-time science teacher for grades 5-8 for the 2022-2023 school year.
Candidates should have 3-5 years of classroom experience and a deep understanding of the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of primary/elementary school students. A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, is motivated to work collaboratively within a robust teaching team, and naturally searches for creative interdisciplinary opportunities.
In the 2022-2023 school year, role-specific responsibilities include: planning and teaching upper school science classes (grades 5-8), serving as an advisor for 5-8 students, and fulfilling general faculty responsibilities. Science classes cover a number of topics including biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental studies. Scientific literacy, critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and data analysis are important aspects of the Dutchess Day School educational program. Situated on 30 acres within the Hudson Valley, the Dutchess Day School science program has many resources both on and off-campus for our next upper school science teacher to explore.
