St. John’s is seeking an Instructional Technology and Innovation Specialist for its middle division (Grades 5-8). This is a full-time (11-month), benefits-eligible position with an August 2022 start date.
The position centers around creating and furthering students lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity by providing the leadership and expertise required to develop, implement, and direct a student-centered learning and media/innovation center that is aligned with St. John’s curriculum and philosophy. The specialist will work collaboratively with faculty, students, and administration to create learning experiences that ensure students are effective users of information and ideas. The specialist will provide students the essential resources and activities for learning and honing their digital fluency as well as providing a diversity of classroom experiences and perspectives that support the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are essential to developing effective and responsible global citizens. The candidate needs to be knowledgeable about current research on teaching and learning, and skilled in accessing, evaluating, and using information from multiple resources. The ideal candidate has exemplary teaching skills, a passion for helping students to make ideas tangible, and an enthusiasm for out-of-the-box ideas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide intellectual access to information through learning activities that are integrated into the curriculum and help all students with information and digital fluency by developing effective learning strategies for selecting, retrieving, analyzing, evaluating, synthesizing, creating, and communicating information in all formats and in all content areas of the curriculum.
- Develop and deliver project-based learning activities that focus on the integration of learning technologies, engineering, and a connection to real-world problems.
- Provide learning experiences that encourage students to become skilled creators of information and help students develop an understanding of the use of information through comprehensive instruction related to the full range of communications, media, and technology.
- Work closely with the Division Director in making enhancements to the Innovation and Library space to create new student areas aligned with the goals of the curriculum and the vision for these spaces within the division.
- Establish strong partnerships with members of the faculty to explore new instructional methods and innovative technologies for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences
- Provide guidance for effectively applying principles of best practice in technology and instructional design to the use of instructional and information technology for learning.
- Provide physical access to information through a carefully selected and systematically organized local collection of diverse learning resources.
- Promote STEM-related activities through collaboration with faculty and administration
- Inventory library books, curriculum materials, equipment, and other materials for the purpose of tracking current library books and equipment
- Maintain, curate, and promote the school’s library collection and keep records of all expenditures; inventory media resources annually, evaluate the collection and replace obsolete and worn materials while updating the catalog and inventory records.
- Manage, update, and troubleshoot 1:1 iPad program for 230 middle division students
The successful candidate is an energetic, high performer who is committed to the school’s mission, and who impresses with their drive, joy, and initiative. Applicants must possess:
- At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university.
- A graduate degree in innovation, technology, instructional design, educational leadership, or related field is preferred.
- At least 3 years prior related work experience as a lead teacher or lead coordinator of innovation, technology, instructional design, design thinking, or professional development.
- A passion for educational technology, instructional design, pedagogical innovation, and professional growth, and a capacity to instill that passion in others
- Genuine affinity for working with children and families in an educational setting
- Ability to make independent decisions along with maintaining the confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
- High level of competence using technology
- Teaching experience in a K(4) – 8 environments, preferably in independent schools
