The Bilgrav School is a rigorous, private school for students with average to above average intelligence who struggle with language mechanics, a.k.a. dyslexic students. So, our teachers use hands-on, project-based instruction to teach and assess. Our classes are small, no more than 7 students per class, which allows teachers the time to individualize lessons and requirements. We are looking for an experienced Science teacher who will thrive teaching concepts with experiments, projects, videos, Socratic discussion, etc. We offer an innovative, collaborative working environment. There is room to carve out a greater role as we add programs and students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- 3+ years Science teaching experience
- Experience with hands-on teaching and project-based learning
- Knowledge of dyslexia, preferable
- Willingness to become learn more about the dyslexic learning style and adapt lessons to that style
- Willingness to individualize assignments and assessments to match students’ high intellectual levels and lower literacy skill
- Willingness to be positive, encouraging, creative, and energetic
- Knowledge of MicroSoft products
- Strong writing skills
Responsibilities
- Teach multi-sensory, project-based curriculum to bright, dyslexic students
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Keep a clean classroom
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Use relevant technology to support instruction
- Observe and evaluate student's performance and development
- Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments
- Provide appropriate feedback on work
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations
- Write quarterly reports on student performance and classroom activities
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures; maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
- Perform certain pastoral duties including student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement
- Oversee homeroom daily, recess duty some days/week
- Participate in school meetings/ parent meetings
- Weekly email to parents with the syllabus for the week.
- Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
- Help establish partnerships with local/regional STEM organizations
