Catlin Gabel School is looking for a Director of Engineering Education to join their community in Portland, OR!
The Director of Engineering Education designs and leads the co-curricular engineering program at Catlin Gabel School. This program seeks to build an interest and appreciation for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on, real world projects of consequence. The program seeks to engage students for whom STEM is already a field of interest, as well as to give all students interested an appreciation for the work engineers do while learning practical skills that will aid them throughout their lives.

Job Responsibilities:
- Build upon the engaging, experiential engineering program that encourages student participation
- Mentor students in the ideation, design, management and construction of their team engineering projects
- Oversee, mentor, coach, and manage all aspects of the First Robotics Competition Team
- Teach metal fabrication skills and safe practices
- Ensure safe practices in the maker space with all equipment including following all school safety procedures and processes.
- Lead and manage the operational details of events involving the students on weekends, including robotics competitions, practices, or outreach events
- Collaborate with colleagues across the school to promote engineering across the school and communicate student events clearly to colleagues
- Partner with division heads to consider the future of engineering across the school
- Manage the team budget and buy required materials
- Collaborate with colleagues to oversee FIRST Lego League teams in the Middle School, including helping to run an after-school spring LEGO robotics activity
- Be a positive and contributing member of the professional community
- Pursue professional growth opportunities and be accountable and responsible for individual professional development
- Support and follow the Employee Handbook for Policies and Procedure
- Write college recommendations for students

- BA or BS in a technical field is required
- At least two years’ demonstrated effective teaching experience is preferred
- Prior experience teaching or coaching adolescents is preferred
- Industry experience in an engineering role is highly preferred
- FIRST Robotics Competition experience at the championship level is highly desirable (as a coach or as a participant in a leadership role)
