Key School seeks candidates for Choral Director in the Performing Arts Department. This position includes working with students in our Lower, Middle and Upper Schools (grades 1-12), in both academic class settings and in various choirs across grade levels.
Key School has a nationally recognized Orff Schulwerk music program in its Lower and Middle Schools. Key's ensemble approach to music education engages children in the joys of a collaborative experience and provides a profound understanding of music as an academic discipline. In the Upper School students can choose courses in Chorus, Chamber Choir, Music Theory, Band, as well as Theater and Dance.
Position Responsibilities:
- Teach two elective classes in the Upper School academic schedule (the first class is a non-auditioned/mixed chorus, and the second class is an auditioned chamber choir)
- Oversee a weekly chorus activity within the activity/clubs program in the Upper School
- Direct the 7th/8th grade chorus, and the 5th/6th grade chorus
- Direct the weekly Lower School chorus
- Be part of a team that recruits students into these experiences, including the Band Director at the school and the Orff Schulwerk teachers
- Develop the choral curriculum, and select repertoire
- Support the general faculty oversight of students, potentially including study hall/recess duties and student advising responsibilities

Perhaps no mandate in Key School's Mission Statement lies closer to the heart of the community than its injunction to "Sustain an ethical school culture that engenders an inherent respect for the dignity of every human being, recognizes that personal liberty must be balanced by personal responsibility and individual action by the needs of others, and stresses to all members of the School community the importance of trust, mutual respect, and compassion."
