Mt. Bethel Christian Academy, located in the heart of East Cobb, is seeking a flexible part-time Lower School Latin teacher for students in 3rd -5th grade to foster and facilitate the intellectual, spiritual, and social development of our students. The desirable candidate will use his/her faith and Biblical knowledge to create an enthusiastic learning environment that keeps students actively engaged in the learning process.

The ideal candidate is able to:

• Teach a developmentally appropriate Latin class twice a week to nine classes – three at each grade level, using the Lower School Latin Curriculum Map to guide instruction throughout the year.

• Provide opportunities for students to:

  • Begin learning the process of Latin translation, working toward translating with some degree of independence by year three

  • Gain increased understanding of English grammar as a by-product of translating Latin sentences

  • Develop vocabulary through the study and memorization of Greek and Latin roots and English derivatives

  • Develop an understanding of the setting of the birth of Christianity within the ancient Roman Empire

  • Incorporate cultural and historical facts as well as Roman and Greek myths
