Far Hills Country Day School, an independent Preschool through Grade 8 school located in Far Hills, New Jersey, seeks a qualified Lower School Learning Support Specialist. Appropriate candidates will join a highly dedicated team of faculty and staff.
General Purpose and Function: The Lower School Learning Support Specialist (LSS) provides instruction and learning support for individuals and small groups of students, primarily in grades K-4. The LSS works collaboratively with teachers and families to support students’ growth in academic areas of reading, math, social studies, and science by using a variety of strategies and multisensory methods. The LSS also supports the development of skills including but not limited to executive functioning, such as planning, prioritizing, and organizing materials. The LSS will regularly push into classrooms to support students during class time and to work with teachers to implement lessons that employ a variety of strategies and multi-sensory methods. In addition, the LSS supports parent meetings and parent presentations to communicate about student progress, curriculum, and areas of development. A degree in special education and/or experience in providing Orton Gillingham (OG) services is preferred. OG certification would be an asset.
The ideal candidate will have a background in evaluating and aiding children with various learning support needs. In addition, the candidate should have an engaging teaching style, and ability to administer and analyze academic assessments, and experience in developing and implementing individualized learning plans for students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide students with reading and math learning support and/or enrichment via direct instruction as needed. Grades 2 through 4 are a focus area.
- Conduct and analyze student reading and math assessments and support teachers in ongoing assessments and instruction.
- Work with teachers to develop and implement reading, language arts, and math lessons.
- Read and analyze formal neuropsychological evaluations and support the implementation of accommodations and modifications in the classroom setting.
- Ability to implement a number of differentiated strategies to scaffold learning for students.
- Provide parent education about the latest research, school programs, curriculum, and student outcomes
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Teacher certification is also a benefit.
- At least three years of experience preferably in independent schools at elementary school levels
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite for Education
- Facility with educational technology
- Collaborative teamwork approach to supporting students
Hours: During the school year, the LSS will be expected to be on campus from 7:45 a.m. – to 4 p.m. Additionally, presence and participation are expected during weekly faculty meetings currently held on Wednesdays from 4–5:30 p.m.
