Job Description
Gravitas is seeking to build the world’s premier online science program for students in grades 7-12. To that end, it is seeking a full-time Science teacher to develop and teach a range of 9th through 12th grade life science classes, including Biology, Advanced Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Advanced Environmental Science. The Life Science teacher will also help us build our science research and academic competitions program.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field or science education
- At least three years of teaching experience, including positive experience with online instruction
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet grading deadlines
- Strong work ethic, high energy, and strong ability to connect with teenagers in the online context
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to respond quickly to all communications
- Eagerness to serve in a faith-based learning environment that emphasizes faithful Christian scholarship and character formation
- High proficiency with technology, including the ability to learn and utilize a learning management system like Canvas LMS, online software tools, and the ability to create screencasts and simple videos.
- Consistent and dependable high speed internet access
- Experience working as part of a collaborative team of teachers, openness to providing and receiving feedback as part of a culture of transparency
- Ability to interact professionally with parents and school community members
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity, as our students come from all over the world
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and lifelong learning
- Maturity and stability sufficient for a demanding position
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach live classes, including labs, to students around the globe
- Develop and continually improve our asynchronous course content and assessments
- Provide synchronous and asynchronous tutoring as needed
- Grade assessments
- Develop the school’s science competitions and projects and coach our students to successful outcomes
