Pinewood School is seeking a talented and inspiring instructor with a passion for software programming to be a full-time Jr. High Computer Science and Engineering teacher at our Upper Campus (grades 7-12) for the 2022-23 school year. Pinewood School’s Technology Program
Over the past several years Pinewood has made significant strides in the development of our Coding and Design/Engineering programs and spaces. We have established core instruction in both areas beginning in Kindergarten and continuing throughout 8th grade. We have built two maker spaces, including our new maker lab at our Upper Campus, and have increased staffing accordingly to offer more courses, clubs, and both technological and programmatic support in these areas. We are committed to maintaining and growing these programs, introducing new technologies and tools whenever relevant, and supporting our students’ needs and growth in these areas.
Job Description
The instructor is responsible for collaborating with the technology department to create curriculum, maintain lab equipment, align courses within our K-12 master plan, and keep current in the education technology industry, always looking for new and better ways to enhance their subject matter. All teaching faculty have additional advisory, supervisory, and chaperoning duties. Pinewood School has small class sizes (the average class size is under 15 students).
Essential Functions
- Develops appropriate Computer Science and Engineering Technology curricula and lessons for students in grades 7-8.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and keeps current with developments in the Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology fields by attending seminars, participating in professional organizations, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Build and maintain caring and supportive relationships with students, encouraging and helping them develop their creativity, innovation, and independence.
- Ensures effective communication with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Computer and Maker Lab upkeep and maintenance.
- Working with the Maker Education director to ensure supplies are stocked and equipment is functioning well.
