Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, on a full-time basis, teaches Upper School English courses and electives, including a combination of sections in our foundation's courses and elective courses or MS English courses. Serves on the Upper School curricular team and as an Upper School advisor.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Teaches four sections of Upper School English (with the potential to teach a combination of Upper and Middle School sections, depending on expertise) – initially this position will be to teach 9th grade and one or more senior electives
- Participates in the admissions process
- Serves as a grade-level advisor for a grade-level team by being an advisor
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators as appropriate
- Participates on a grade-level curricular team
- Serves as an advisor or co-advisor for 10 to 12 Upper School Students
- Actively participates in the life of the school outside the classroom (e.g. coaching, advising clubs, etc.)
- Possible other duties include one co-curricular activity and one additional duty per day (e.g., study hall, lunch room, etc.) as assigned by the Division Directors
- Chaperones at least one school event outside of normal school hours (e.g. a dance, service outing, or social event) as determined by the Division Directors
- Participates in school related functions (e.g., Open Houses, Back to School Night, Commencement, etc.) as determined by the Head of School and Division Director
- Vigorously engages in their own professional development
- Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the schools constituencies
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
- Since safety and security are everyones responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in English or a related field from a four-year college or university required
- Master's degree in English or a related field strongly preferred
- Recent and successful teaching experience, particularly in teaching English, is preferred
- 3+ years of successful teaching experience preferred

- Commitment to teaching the whole child
- A working understanding of UDL, UbD, and Grading for Equity concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all constituents in the school community
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability and flexibility to use Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suites, learning management systems, online meeting and conferencing applications, and operating Audio/Visual equipment
- Ability and interest in coaching and/or working in our outdoor program is a plus
