Learning Center Overview:
Within our Learning Center at Boulder Country Day, we have four full-time learning specialists, and one part-time learning specialists that constitute our “Learning Center Team.” The learning specialists work with the Division Heads, the other members of the team, teachers, and students to support the diverse needs of a variety of learners across divisions.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Facilitate of bimonthly “Student Support Team” meetings;
- Expedite regular grade-level meetings to assess student writing progress;
- Create and implement protocols for determining students who will need the support of the Learning Center;
- Assess individual students to identify any potential learning needs, determine effective educational interventions, and make referrals for further assessment when appropriate;
- Mentor and support teachers to implement a strategic plan for ongoing intervention (remediation or enrichment) in accordance with individual students’ needs;
- Identify benchmark performance standards and assessments for evaluating students and their learning progress;
- Collaborate with the appropriate teachers, parents and/ or any other parties (tutors, psych-educational evaluators, and any other service providers) to evaluate students’ learning needs and progress, and to make data-based recommendations for further academic and/or social-emotional support;
- Maintain a comprehensive system for documenting and reporting students’ needs and progress.
- Assist teachers in classrooms to help differentiate instruction by adjusting, modifying and enriching curricular approaches and improvement in pedagogy;
- Remain current with appropriate instructional theory, practice and research, including professional development to advance the role of the Learning Center.
- Possess a working knowledge of BCD’s elementary curriculum;
- Assess incoming and prospective students for admission;
- Represent BCD’s Learning Center in the wider Boulder community by making contacts and reaching out to Boulder’s gifted and special needs communities;
- Partner with and support BCD families in understanding BCD’s differentiation and curricular model;
- Perform other tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Director of the Learning Center and/or Head of School.
