The natural world is integral to Roberts Field School’s creative, innovative, interdisciplinary, curriculum. Across all aspects of programming, we are committed to a highly differentiated, enriching, and engaging experience. Central to our enrichment offerings is our Day in the Field (DITF) weekly outdoor education experience for students in grades 1–5. Modeled after the Swiss Forest School, DITF is deeply rooted in nature, creativity, philosophy, and Physical, Life, and Earth Sciences. DITF is based in nearby Prospect Park with places such as Central Park, the Highline, and Gowanus Canal also offering tremendous opportunities for diverse learning experiences and environments.
We are seeking a part-time (potential for full-time) Outdoor Nature & Science Educator to sculpt and lead our Day in the Field program as the Lead Field Instructor one morning a week for approximately 35 students in grades 1–5. This teacher is responsible for developing units of study, lesson plans, and hands-on experiences rooted in our pedagogical philosophy and mission and collaborating with the teaching team to delegate components such as arts, philosophy, and small group exploratory activities augmenting and diversifying the 4-hour outdoor experience. This programming is all-weather except in extreme cold, wind, or electrical storms.
This position is approximately 6-10 hours per week with the potential for full-time.
Our ideal candidate has robust experience teaching, deep knowledge and love of outdoors, commitment to collaboration, and strong interest in integrating arts, sciences, and nature.
