The Director of Alumni reports to the Director of Development and is responsible for the creation, planning and implementation of programs to increase alumni engagement and support of Packer. As the primary contact for over 3,000 alumni, the Director of Alumni must establish, care for, and build meaningful relationships with a diverse constituency of alumni with varied tenures and experiences at Packer. The Director of Alumni models cultural competence by recognizing one's own biases, actively analyzing one’s own internal belief systems and being an effective and respectful communicator. The Director of Alumni is responsible for all alumni fundraising, working in close collaboration with all members of the Development Office team.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Creating and implementing an annual plan that promotes alumni engagement, connection and philanthropic support through innovative programming and targeted event, communication, and fundraising strategies
- Maintaining personal contact with alumni - locally, regionally, and nationally - via phone calls, visits, and correspondence
- Designing, planning, coordinating, and implementing the Alumni component of the Packer Fund, including leadership giving. Includes the drafting of solicitations, acknowledgments and other correspondence, and working closely with the Development Office team
- Actively identifying and cultivating alumni prospects for gifts at all levels
- Creating an enthusiastic and engaged alumni volunteer program, regularly identifying and recruiting new volunteers; training and coordinating volunteers to work on various alumni projects, including reunion planning and giving, The Packer Fund, Giving Day, and local and regional events and programs
- Developing, implementing, and stewarding a planned giving program for the alumni community
- Partnering with the Director of Special Events to:
- Evaluate and reimagine events and programmatic aspects of the Alumni Relations program on an ongoing basis
- Ensure that they are fresh, are increasing alumni involvement and awareness, and are contributing to the overall goals of the development program.
- Gather and analyze feedback and data to identify trends
- Work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff to strengthen their participation in alumni programs
- Proactively identify on-campus alumni engagement opportunities during the school year and match alumni appropriately with faculty requests (speakers, class visits, resources, etc.)
- Develop and implement programming for students and young alumni
- Engaging with current students
- Partnering with the Upper School and College Counseling Offices
- Join students for on-campus and off-campus events, excursions, and trips
- Liaising with Alumni Board
- Set meeting agendas with the President, provide all supporting information, and attend all meetings
- Plan activities and recommend and recruit new members for the Alumni Board
- Maintaining the alumni section of Packer website
- Collaborating with the Communications Office on Packer Magazine
- Coordinating Class Notes section
- Partnering with the Director of Communications to identify and produce alumni content for the magazine
- Ensuring accurate and complete alumni records in Raiser’s Edge, including correspondence, contact and engagement, in collaboration with Manager of Development Services
- Keeping alumni, colleagues and the immediate Packer community apprised of alumni news and events via timely updates through a variety of media, including active management of social media
- Managing other tasks as needed that support overarching objectives of the position
- Assisting other members of the Development Office team as requested
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of alumni relations and/or fundraising experience, preferably in an independent school.
- Strong interpersonal skills and enjoyment of personal interaction; ability to develop and maintain relationships with students, alumni, colleagues, faculty, and staff
- Must have highest ethical standards and an ability to handle confidential issues with integrity and discretion
- Demonstrate courtesy, tact, and a willingness to help when interacting with all constituencies
- Ability to strategize, implement and build diverse constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for leading and motivating volunteers
- Evening and weekend work and travel may be required
- Work to be performed in an office environment as well as at various off-site locations
