Rowland Hall Middle School (grades 6–8) and Upper School (grades 9–12) make up the Lincoln Street Campus and serve a combined 500+ students with a focus on developmentally appropriate academic, emotional, and social growth. Each division promotes a strong culture of professional growth, collegiality, and collaboration for teachers. The divisions offer students an engaging and challenging academic program, including extensive co-curricular offerings in the arts, debate, and athletics, and within the Upper School students also can opt into numerous service-learning opportunities and internships. There is a 1–1 laptop program in grade 7-12, with 6th grade using iPads. Teachers in both divisions use the Canvas learning management system and Veracross as a student information system.
Position Summary
This is a part-time teaching position (somewhere in the realm of a 0.6-0.8 FTE) working with beginning through advanced dancers in middle and upper school. Dance classes work toward competencies in contemporary dance through the basic technical practice of ballet, modern and hip-hop forms. Additionally dancers build skill in the development of personal voice through improvisational study. Course work culminates in a series of performances throughout the year. The candidate will be stepping into an already established dance program and helping us to define its future in line with our new strategic priorities.
Primary Job Responsibilities
The job entails planning and teaching dynamic, age-appropriate lessons; communicating regularly and proactively with students, their families, and colleagues; and, contributing positively to the overall school culture while fulfilling duties as assigned (recess and lunch supervision, field trip supervisor, etc). The position currently entails teaching a mix of skill levels during the same classes, offering differentiated instruction as needed.
Skills and Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree and experience working with teens and adolescents in the realm of dance and performing arts is preferred. The ideal candidate is focused on the learning and well-being of students. In addition, a Rowland Hall teacher has excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and a commitment to reflecting on their practices and continuously improving them. This is a part-time, 12-month, exempt position, reporting to the Middle School Principal. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022.
