Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 530 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 107-acre campus, seeks a Middle School Dean of Students. The Dean of Students works with the Middle School Director to ensure that school policies concerning student conduct, attendance, and behavior are upheld and recommends policies and procedures that are consistent with the mission of the school and the educational goals of the Middle School. The Dean of Students is also responsible for coordinating activities that fall under the category of student life.

Key Responsibilities
- Teach two sections of Middle School classes throughout the academic year
- Lead the further development of a comprehensive advisory program in partnership with grade teams
- Understands adolescent development
- Further develop student social-emotional learning curriculum with the middle school counselor
- Hone and lead the implementation of a mission-aligned student discipline approach, including convening disciplinary committees as necessary
- Determines course of action for all serious disciplinary issues with the Middle School Director
- Works closely with faculty on disciplinary issues. Maintains records of student discipline issues and Conduct Committee proceedings
- Counsels students on appropriate conduct
- Leads middle school community service program
- Serves as a resource for teachers on student disciplinary issues
- Supervises student-run activities such as dances, Winter Carnival, pep rallies, fundraisers, etc.
- Advises and facilitates student government
- Works to generate, through activities and a positive presence, an enthusiasm among students for the school
- Works with faculty and students to develop leadership and character-building opportunities for students
Additional Duties
- Report to the Middle School Director.
- Lead two co-curricular activities during our afternoon sports/clubs block.
- Serve as a Middle School co-advisor.
- Attend school-related events outside the scheduled school day, including admissions events
- Participate in middle school class trips, clubs, and Winterim expeditions.
- Additional duties as deemed necessary by the School.
The salary range for this position is $45,000 - $70,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, 401(k) and generous time-off.
