Nishmat Adin -Shalhevet Scottsdale, located in Scottsdale, AZ, is a private, co-ed, Jewish High School with a rigorous dual curriculum of Judaic and college preparatory studies. The school is run in collaboration with Shalhevet High School in Los Angeles, CA and utilizes a combination of remote learning and Arizona-based faculty for content delivery and student support. Nishmat Adin - Shalhevet Scottsdale opened for the 2021-2022 year with a 9th and 10th grade and is rapidly looking to expand its Arizona-based faculty, with ample opportunities ranging from part-time positions to full-time positions with the potential for school leadership opportunities.

The Position: High School Science Teacher (with potential STEM Educational Support Role)
Nishmat Adin - Shalhevet Scottsdale High School seeks a part-time or full-time High School Science Educator to teach and additionally serve in a role of student support in science classes taught remotely. Additional student support capabilities, particularly in STEM subjects, is desirable but not required.
Essential Job Functions:
- Plan and implement course instruction in the sciences to high school students
- Develop a laboratory science program for the school
- Complete and submit lesson plans, progress reports, narratives, and other documentation as requested
- Assess student work and provide meaningful feedback to guide learning and growth
- Work in conjunction with Shalhevet High School Los Angeles teachers to provide content support during remote instruction and monitor student progress in those courses
- Collaborate with colleagues in order to enhance the instructional environment
- Participate professionally in scheduled meetings as needed
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhancing it
- Use classroom management strategies and approaches to create and maintain a classroom environment of safety, respect, positivity, acceptance, and learning
- Use conflict resolution strategies that support healthy student social development
- Build personal relationships with all students that demonstrate respect and compassion
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and colleagues
- Model professional behaviors and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the broader community.
- Maintain reliable, consistent attendance and punctuality
- Adhere to school policies, procedures, and deadlines
- Perform other duties as assigned and assist in other school programs when necessary

Potential Additional Functions:
A candidate who can additionally function as an Educational Support Specialist in STEM is desirable though not required. Additional desired roles and skillsets in this area could include:
- Working in conjunction with Shalhevet High School Los Angeles teachers to provide content support
- Monitoring student progress in STEM subjects
- Implementing student assessments
- Providing consistent individualized and small group support in multiple contact areas.
- Coordinating, facilitating and managing meetings with various stakeholders, including faculty, administrators and parents, in order to devise educational plans for individual students
- Reviewing psychoeducational evaluations; summarizing documents for future reference.
- Working in collaboration with a partnering disability resource organization, which provides additional student support
- Observing and informally assessing students to identify learning, social and emotional factors that impact performance
- Interacting with school personnel and families to discuss learning profiles and effective teaching strategies
- Working one-on-one with students on a short-term basis to provide support and determine need for self-advocacy or additional services
- Providing expertise on learning issues and appropriate interventions
- Facilitating basic immediate mental wellness needs for students and working with local mental health professionals (list of professional resources available) to help direct students towards long-term mental health care as-needed
Required Qualifications: (Skills, experience, education/certification, etc.)
- Master’s Degree preferred in a relevant field and/or teaching credential in appropriate subject matter
- Experience teaching general and advanced high school science courses, including laboratory science
- A combination of a Master’s Degree in special education or educational therapy and experience teaching general and advanced sciences would also be considered
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of learning disabilities and developmental exceptionalities
- Knowledge of Arizona special education standards and laws
- Understanding of testing instruments used in psychoeducational evaluation, including IEPs, and experience interpreting reports
- Experience reviewing psychoeducational testing, developing related student accommodation plans, and tracking progress over time
- Evaluation of where breakdowns in learning occur; ability to recommend targeted interventions
- Ability to work with and communicate effectively in a warm and empathic manner
- Flexibility and creativity in working in a dynamic environment, where new ideas and mistakes are embraced
- Familiarity with hybrid learning models
- Technical proficiency with demonstrated experience utilizing Zoom, Google Docs, and Google Classroom
