The Williston Northampton School, an independent co-educational boarding and day school in Easthampton, Massachusetts with a culturally diverse educational community in grades 7-12. We are seeking to hire a full time Director of Choirs. Responsibilities will include teaching the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and AP Music Theory. The position also directs the extracurricular ensembles including our community-wide Teller Chorus and a student a cappella group. The Director of Choirs will also be expected to collaborate with the theater department as music director for all musical productions. This position also partners with our instrumental music teacher in supporting the instrumental ensembles and setting up music lessons for our students.
All candidates should possess demonstrable passion for music, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage and intellectually excite students in the pursuit of learning and making music. A bachelor’s degree in music (or equivalent) is required, a master’s degree in choral conducting is preferred. Excellent teaching and pedagogical skills are expected, particularly with regards to vocal technique, choral conducting, and piano proficiency. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide students with opportunities to participate in state choral festivals and be involved with both the state’s ACDA and MMEA chapters. This position includes involvement with our afternoon program, as well as student advising.
Depending on the interests of the candidate and the needs of the school residential responsibilities could be added. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, and must have the ability to work in a school environment by successful completion of all legally required and school required background checks including the state mandated CORI, Criminal Offender Record Information, SORI, Sex Offender Record Information and Fingerprint based criminal background check.
