Are you searching for a position that allows you to share your passion for chemistry? Do you enjoy helping others understand the processes and value of scientific inquiry? Does solving problems using interdisciplinary thinking in the sciences and maths excite you? Are you eager to collaborate with colleagues, and support students in and out of the classroom? If your answers to these questions are “yes,” Ransom Everglades School is eager to talk with you about a position in our STEM department. We are searching for faculty members with a background and expertise in chemistry, but who can also teach other courses in science, math, or computer science.
The STEM Department (combining Science and Mathematics & Computer Science) represents the school's commitment to interdisciplinary thinking and to STEM as a core element of the curriculum. Ransom Everglades offers a range of courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, including an introduction to Chemistry, Advanced General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. The STEM curriculum also includes a rigorous math program through linear algebra and multivariable calculus, along with computer science, data science, engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, marine science, and other electives. The department seeks candidates to instruct in the current curriculum and to help grow the curriculum to take advantage of the resources and spaces of the newly opened Fernandez STEM Center.
The Fernandez STEM Center, a 40,000 square foot LEED-certified building opened for the 2020-21 academic year. State-of-the-art labs for life, chemical, and physical sciences, fully equipped workshops for making and engineering, and collaborative workspaces invite design, experimentation, creativity, and research. With our new STEM Center, Ransom Everglades is further poised to equip students with the skills of modern innovation. Learn more about our STEM center here.
Members of the STEM department contribute to the department’s ongoing discussions about interdisciplinary and experiential learning, research, innovative assessment practices, and best practices in the use of technology in education. Candidates must embrace the school’s value for inquiry-based, student-centered learning and the school's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Ransom Everglades expects its faculty members to participate in department meetings, student activities, and otherwise be engaged in the life of the school.
Prior independent school teaching experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Teams/OneNote and/or Google Classroom, are preferred. Applicants must have at least a Master’s degree in a STEM field and be comfortable using the Microsoft Suite and G Suite platforms.
While the search committee will entertain applications from candidates of all backgrounds, preferred are those who can enrich interdisciplinary ties within STEM, such as across chemistry and math, chemistry and biology, and chemistry and computer science, and/or who can teach more than one subject (i.e. Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-Calculus) within the STEM department.
