The Pilot School is seeking a Language Arts Teacher in our Upper Division (Grades 6-8) for the 22-23 school year. Pilot is an independent K-8 school for bright children with language-based learning differences. Staff at The Pilot School are members of a collaborative team of expert academic faculty and therapists. The position is perfect for professionals who crave a dynamic teaching and learning environment, one in which curiosity and a love of the learning sciences drive each day. The school boasts state of the art facilities, including sun-filled classrooms overlooking our beautiful natural campus, therapeutic learning spaces, an extensive library, outdoor classrooms, music and art studios, a full-size gym and basketball court, an auxiliary therapy gym, a therapeutic saltwater swimming pool, and 30 acres of hiking trails abutting state and national parkland.
Teachers are the primary conduit through which the mission of the school is brought to fruition. Integral to the success of The Pilot School, teachers work directly with students in their classrooms, instructing them, guiding the development of skills and strategies, and supporting the growth of the full child.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Support and carry out the school’s mission and culture
Provide exemplary instruction tailored to the individual needs of each student
Stay current and invested in best practices for students who learn differently
Nurture a culture of learning in a classroom environment of respect and rapport
Organize and maintain accurate and effective records of learning
Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs and the needs of the school
Maintain active supervision in order to ensure a safe and healthy school environment
Communicate effectively with families and colleagues

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required, graduate degree preferred
Three years of teaching experience required, special education experience preferred
Teaching certification preferred
WILSON, Orton-Gillingham, or other Reading certification preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to collaborate and activity contribute to a positive work culture
