The Aquatics Director’s position is a full time, 12-month position that is responsible for the development, implementation, instructing and management of a quality aquatics program to serve both the Horace Mann (PE and Athletics, students and employees) and greater (water polo, swim teams, lessons, summer camps, etc.) communities. The Aquatics Director works in the 26,000 SF Aquatics Center and provides oversight for the overall aquatics program, including pool management of the eight-lane, 25-yard pool, program development, staffing, marketing, administration.
Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with the Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education, Physical Education Chairs and faculty to develop a comprehensive Aquatics program for Horace Mann School, including summer programs and outside community use.
- Develop, market, and manage a comprehensive Aquatics program for community use and revenue generation under the direction of the Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education.
- Provide oversight for the pool’s operation, including maintenance and the routine care, maintenance, and management of all relevant pool equipment and computer and electronic equipment.
- Work with the Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education to develop annual budgets for the pool operations and rentals.
- Interact with multiple internal and external constituents daily for program development, management, and maintenance.
- Serve as Head Coach at the middle division and varsity swimming levels.

- Bachelor’s degree. Preference to candidates with a Master’s degree, education in a sports related field, and/or experience in a USA Swimming club program.
- Certified in pool operations, CPR, AED, First Aid and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction (WSI) and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI).
- Familiarity with MS-Office applications and other web-based programs.
- The physical ability to perform routine pool duties including lifting and moving pool lines, lifeguard stands, touch pads, and other pool equipment.
- Experience in managing a pool facility and staff.
- Experience in youth development through aquatics, aquatics safety and program management.
- Strong leadership, motivational, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A record of integrity and the ability to inspire students and athletes to perform at a high level is essential.
- Desirable attributes include a passion for swimming and developing young swimmers, commitment to swimmers of all backgrounds and abilities, ability to motivate swimmers at their level, and technical knowledge of competitive swimming.
