West Nottingham Academy, a premier independent boarding school located in Colora, MD, has an immediate opening for an Accounting Specialist in the Business Office. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a vibrant and fun school atmosphere, while attaining practical accounting experience working directly under an active CPA. This position reports directly to the Business Manager. The Accounting Specialist will provide accounting support to major financial account areas, including accounts receivable and accounts payable. The right person will have a great opportunity to grow into a Senior Accountant role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coding, obtaining internal approvals, auditing invoices and employee expense reports, entering and processing check, credit card, and ACH bank draft payments.
- Entering student billing charges, subsequent payments, and credits on customer accounts.
- Compiling and analyzing internal aged accounts receivable and accounts payable reports.
- Sending collection emails to customers with delinquent accounts.
- Acting as the main point of contact for customers and staff with questions about student accounts.
Other Responsibilities:
- Entering journal entries.
- Making bank deposits.
- Preparing monthly account reconciliations of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Prepaid Expenses and Accrued Expenses.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date vendor files (both hard and soft copies).
- Obtaining W-9 forms, Certificates of Insurance from vendors and maintaining information to enable preparation of Forms 1099.
- Assisting the Business Manager with other projects or duties as needed.
