Learning Support Specialist
Upland Country Day School seeks an innovative and experienced Learning Support Specialist to work with students in Grades 1-9 to start with the 2022/23 academic year.
The Learning Support Specialist is a multifaceted position. Candidates will successfully carry out the following responsibilities and duties:
Math (Grades PK-5)
- Lower School Curriculum Coordinator
- Communicate regularly with teachers to assist with implementation of Think!Mathematics and Developing Roots curriculums which are both fairly new.
- Assist teachers periodically with a particular lesson
- Assist teachers with use of the digital tools for these programs
- Communicate with publisher regarding the purchase of digital and hard copy materials
- Set up teacher accounts for digital portion of materials
- Maintain student account information across digital learning platforms
- Student Math Support
- Push in to classrooms to assist teacher with students in classroom
- Pull out individual students and small groups to provide either extra support or enrichment activities; coordinate with teachers on a regular basis to facilitate
- Whole group assessment of each class three times per year
- Prepare and coordinate Lower School summer math work
Digital Citizenship (Grades 1-5)
- Schedule and present 5 to 6 lessons per year in each classroom (see curriculum)

Digital Literacy / Media Literacy (Grades 6-9)
- 6th and 7th grades - Topics: social media use and guidelines; research; copyright, fair use; digital tracking; device time management
- 8th and 9th grades - Topics: digital tracking; social media influence on society; fake news
Upper School Support (Grades 6-9)
- Work with individual students to support them with their academic work. Help with organization and time management. Teach them to advocate for themselves with teachers. Help them to develop study habits and study techniques that work for them. Involves math tutoring and writing support as well.
Additional Responsibilities
- Covering classes for colleagues when necessary.
- Actively participate in all in-service and orientation days.
- Experience in academic technology desirable
- Experience or interest in coaching (field hockey, soccer, ice hockey, lacrosse) is highly desirable.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working with elementary and middle school students.
- Current clearances, including: Act 34 - PA State Police Criminal Record Check; Act 114 - FBI Report and Fingerprinting; Act 151 - PA Child Abuse History Clearance
