The Swain School Campus of Moravian Academy seeks a middle grades Humanities teacher. This full-time faculty member will be responsible for teaching seventh-grade Humanities courses. This teacher will lead an advisory group of students and make a significant contribution to student life as an additional responsibility (for example, an elective course). The school seeks candidates who are innovative, technology-savvy, have a firm grasp of teaching pedagogy, knowledge of literature and history, and embrace and understand the unique developmental stages of middle school-age students.

Swain teachers meet regularly and work collaboratively within disciplines and across divisions and are actively involved in the life of the school outside their classrooms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach a discussion-based, inquiry-driven English and history program for middle school-age students;
- Design innovative instructional methods to meet the needs of diverse learners’ academic, social and emotional growth in the fields of reading, writing, and history;
- Assess and report with frequency students’ progress and performance, including writing end-of-term reports;
- Develop and nurture positive relationships with students, fellow faculty members, and families;
- Attend divisional, full-faculty, and parent meetings as needed;
- Develop and coordinate curriculum across disciplines with Specialists and other teachers;
- Conduct a well-managed, mutually respectful classroom environment;
- Engage in continued professional development.
Requirements:
- Experience teaching intermediate or middle school age students;
- Training in research-based best practices and current teaching methods;
- A passion for teaching and children;
- Experience applying Responsive Classroom, Balanced Literacy, Harkness, and Teacher’s College Writers Workshop methods a plus;
- Experience with creating and implementing a rigorous, engaging curriculum;
Education
Bachelor's or Graduate level degree in Elementary Education or Secondary Level English, History or Social Studies.

Moravian Academy, located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is a PK through 12th grade coeducational college preparatory school and the ninth oldest independent school in the United States.
