Position Summary
Maui Preparatory Academy is searching for a Full-time Paraprofessional.
What is a Paraprofessional?
A paraprofessional works to assist teachers and students throughout the daily school activities working closely with administration and security. Some of the duties include helping schedule and implement programs in accordance with the curriculum as well as general classroom and clerical duties such as maintaining a clean and safe environment or printing and preparing educational materials. Supervision is key, ensuring that the safety of all is maintained both inside and outside of the classroom.
Due to the nature of the job, a strong passion for education coupled with patience and discipline is necessary for a successful career. Other important skills include exceptional communication skills and the physical ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Responsibilities for Paraprofessional
- Assist teachers with additional help if needed outside of the classroom environment
- Communicate with and school office and students throughout the day
- At times prepare the classroom or school setting to promote a healthy learning environment
- Ensure campus safety is met at all times
- Monitor students throughout the day
- Engage with students to enhance learning
- Perform clerical tasks as required
Qualifications for Paraprofessional
- Experience in helping teachers in a classroom environment desired
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Good understanding of the educational system
- Strong interpersonal and social attributes
- Discipline and diligent nature, demonstrates a professional presence with students
- Enthusiastic and passionate about education
- Patient with students
- Ability to stand and move around for long hours at a time
- Displays a warm and nurturing character that supports the applicant’s ability to connect with middle and high school students and their families, is a team player and connects with all faculty and staff.
