PRIMARY FUNCTION: The School Counselor will work directly and indirectly with students, faculty and administrators in order to help address social-emotional needs of the students at the School. He/she will serve as a vital contact person and resource for parents.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide general support to students to help address social-emotional issues that impact their ability to perform academically and conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.
- Serve as a resource for teachers.
- Serve as a member of the divisional “student support” teams to identify ways to address student issues and to create a response plan for the school and parents.
- To assist in reading the files provided by the Admission’s office regarding student admissions.
Specific Duties:
- Provide short-term individual counseling in order to assess the nature of any concerns and offer appropriate resources to students and families. Students who need regular counseling will be referred to an outside professional.
- Participate in divisional student support meetings as scheduled to discuss individual students and to identify strategies to address their situation.
- Provide support to classroom teachers, deans, and administrators regarding students facing social and emotional issues.
- Work collaboratively with the learning specialist to assist students with special needs.
- Work with the Division Director and Dean of Student Life to create appropriate programs for students.
- Collaborate with Upper School Office of Student Life to enhance the advisory program.
- Participate in the life of the School community as well as other all school initiatives.
Hours:
The School Counselor will follow the scheduled hours for staff employees. From July 1st through August 15th, the School Counseling Office shall have coverage by one of the counselors. That coverage can be distributed evenly at the discretion of the counselors. This change in hours will not affect the sick, personal and vacation time allotted to the employee.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have a certificate in school psychology or be a licensed mental health professional as well as possess previous experience in a school setting.
