JOB SUMMARY: Would you like to work with a very small cohort of students with Language-Based Learning Disabilities (LBLDs)? If so, we are looking for the founding educator for our 2nd-4th grade Foundations program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Provide instruction utilizing best practices and proven methodologies to a mixed age group of students
- Conduct initial assessments to formulate academic and social-emotional goals for each student
- Coordinate with school personnel and parents to ensure student needs are being addressed
- Utilize multisensory approach, modeling and metacognitive strategies when instructing.
- Use micro-units to structure tasks while providing practice and review to reach automaticity
- Build lesson plans that provide specialized instruction for each student according to need
- Monitor student progress, behavior patterns and, in conjunction with the school counselor, address social-emotional needs
- Work closely with parents and communicate with families effectively
- Be upbeat and welcome the opportunity and challenge to change the trajectories of student lives daily
PREFERRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Moderate Disabilities PreK-8
- Orton-Gillingham certification (Associate Level minimum) or willing to immediately pursue the necessary training to become certified. Must be committed to staying current with best practices for educating this population with the Orton Gillingham approach.
- Experience working with students with ADHD, executive function, anxiety, and other educational challenges which are often comorbid with LBLD.
- Experience teaching thematically, in ways that capture student interests while achieving curriculum standards.
- 3-5 years experience in a language-based classroom setting
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated skills in working effectively and collaboratively as a team player
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- A desire and passion to help students with LBLD realize their full potential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires the ability to use stairs, walk across hilly campus, and lift up to 50 lbs.
