The Director of College Counseling is responsible for the entirety of the college counseling program which includes:
- advising/guiding students and families throughout the college process,
- designing and offering a curriculum that prepares and supports students through the college application process,
- providing programing for parents,
- writing letters of recommendation for each senior student,
- advocating for students through contact with college admissions reps,
- supporting teachers in their efforts to advocate for students in writing letters of rec,
- working with the Dean of Academic Affairs to ensure the quality of a robust, rigorous, and rewarding curriculum,
- keeping faculty up-to-date on current trends in college admissions, as well as current pedagogical approaches in colleges,
- coordinating standardized testing (continue to be a SAT test center)--PSAT, SAT, ACT and AP, updating the school's profile.
Candidates should be familiar with SCOIR. The role also encourages professional development through NACAC and RMACAC and the continual promotion of the institution in the college admissions world.
Other responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching one academic course; to be determined by the candidate’s strengths and interests
- Leading an advisory group of 6-8 students
- Participating in our experiential learning program (Fall Trips, MLK Day, Community Days, and Minimester)
- Proactive and timely communication with colleagues, parents and students
- Attending occasional evening/weekend school events
Minimum requirements include:
- A Bachelor’s degree; Master’s is preferred
- At least 2 years experience working in either in selective college admissions or high school college counseling
