St. Luke’s School, a secular, college-preparatory day school serving grades 5 through 12 in New Canaan, Connecticut, seeks a full-time teacher of Spanish to join its award-winning World Language (WL) Department. The St. Luke’s WL team is comprised of 6 Spanish teachers, 5 French teachers, 2 Classics teachers, and 2 Mandarin teachers. The WL program is known regionally and nationally for its innovations, use of cutting-edge technology, and total immersion modern language classes. Since 2015, the St. Luke’s French program has consistently been awarded the status of “AATF Exemplary French Program with Distinction” -- the highest rank of French programs nationally.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

Teach full-time course load of four Spanish classes, primarily in the Upper School, with the possibility of one 8th grade Middle School class.

Participate in an after-school activity for three seasons (athletic coaching preferred).

Serve as co-advisor for a group of 6 to 8 students.

Assist with supervisory duties, such as study hall proctoring, lunchroom supervision, and chaperoning events.

Contribute to grade level teaching teams designing interdisciplinary units of study.
Qualifications
-
Inspiring, collaborative teacher with a minimum of 2 years’ classroom teaching experience, who loves working with high school students of all ages and ability levels.

Demonstrated expertise in the collaborative design and delivery of student-led learning, including adept and creative use of technology in a 1:1 device learning environment.

Strong cultural competency skills grounded in the World Language classroom; a demonstrated commitment to furthering the creation of an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a deep sense of belonging.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Interest in and enthusiasm for St. Luke's brand of leadership education, innovation and creative problem solving.
