The Ethel Walker School announces a search for a full time Data Manager, who will have oversight of employees that directly enter and modify data in any of Walker’s data systems. The Data Manager is not the direct supervisor of those employees but has the authority to require employees to adhere to good data management practices. The data manager can also assign tasks to a pool of employees responsible for data entry.
Job Summary:
Works with the Senior Administration Team and the Director of Technology to provide assistance and support in the strategic management of the schools database systems. The schools Student information system, Veracross is used to manage admissions, assessment, reporting, recording, and attendance. Walker’s Advancement team is using Raiser's Edge to manage donor relations and fundraising. The Data Manager should be familiar with Veracross and eager to work on the technical and non-technical procedures that establish solid communications between databases.
The Data Manager will provide efficient and effective organization, consolidation and integrity of all the schools data management systems.
Relationships:
Daily contact with the Administration, Administrative Staff, and Academic administrators. It is important to understand that you are representing Walkers and this is reflected by behaving in a professional manner, showing a positive attitude, and speaking in favor of the school when around students, parents and other employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General
- Support the school’s mission and culture
- Have good attendance and be a positive team player.
Data integration between systems
- Vendor management where integration was handled by the vendor
- The management between vendors to resolve issues
- Develops specifications for data mapping to be implemented by a software developer
Data integrity
- Determines data needed to be collected and the appropriate data resources
- Formulates, implements, and enforces proper data processes and procedures
- Oversees data handling
- Consults with staff on data entry issues and assists in developing means to correct the problems
- Reviews entered data on a regular basis
Data Reports and Analysis
- Understands and ensures privacy law and standards
- Evaluates current systems to improve operations
- Prepares data reports for distribution
- Develops ad-hoc reports as necessary
Data Imports & Queries
- Occasional Data Entry in support of the Academic and Admissions offices, particularly around ensuring the timely registration of new students
- Data mapping and import at the request of departments
- Custom Complex Data Queries to the specification of end-users
Other Duties
- Provide database support to the Academic Office around compiling and managing student grades and transcripts
- Provide database support to the Advancement office
- Provide database support to the Admissions office
- Propose and implement changes to improve accuracy and efficiency of records creation, maintenance, and storage
- Provides ongoing consultation and technical assistance. Other duties may be assigned from time to time
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field recommended.
- Two years of Data Management experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to get along with co-workers and other school community members
Physical Work Environment:

- It is essential to be able to meet the physical demands of standing and sitting for extended periods of time
