Health and Physical Education Teacher
Position Title: Health and Physical Education Teacher
Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning, Physical Education Department Chair
Collaborates closely with: Student Support Team, PE teachers
POSITION SUMMARY
Health and Physical Education teacher with previous experience teaching an area of health and physical education and deep understanding of and interest in student-centered and experiential instructional practices.
This full-time position will work with a collaborative team of PE and student support teachers to teach K-6 morning PE classes and teach 6-12th grade afternoon health classes or workshops based around an experiential, cross-curricular, and character-driven approach.
Applicants must be able to plan and deliver health and physical education lessons and experiences, including human development and sex education, developmentally appropriate for students in a flexible setting. Applicants must also be team players and enjoy working in a collaborative environment with a supportive community.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary role for this position will be to teach K-6 physical education classes in the morning and a rotation of 6-12th grade health classes in the afternoon.
Health Teaching Responsibilities
- Support the design and facilitation of a coherent, inclusive health and wellness curriculum that helps students make informed judgements and decisions with a balance of curiosity, critical questioning, and self-awareness that sustain physical, mental, and social wellness.
- Teach a rotation of 6-12th grade health classes and workshops, including the integration of developmentally appropriate issues and topics such as nutrition, anatomy, contraception, STI protection, pregnancy/unintended pregnancy, sexual violence prevention, and identity.
- Create a comfortable, engaging space for students to engage in health-related content, discussion, and learning experiences.
- Facilitate additional presentations and workshops for the wider community, including faculty, staff, and parents, on health-related topics as needed.
Physical Education Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach morning PE classes to students ranging from grades K-6.
- Support Upper School athletics as deemed necessary.
- Collaborate to plan and implement physical education curriculum based on school and department mission and vision, including shared learning outcomes and skill sequences.
- Provide continual assessment of student progress, including composing individual student comments two times a year and completing assigned paperwork in provided time frames.
- Create a classroom environment of mutual respect and rapport; incorporate anti-bias and anti-racist practices into the classroom culture.
- Use core values to help manage student behavior and teach collaboration, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Attend and support Village physical education events.
- Engage in assigned weekly duties, including but not limited to student supervision on the playground for lunch and recess.
- Attend department, divisional, and faculty meetings and professional development days, including new faculty training and professional development before school begins.
- Engage in Chadwick new faculty orientations and training throughout the year.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Bachelor Degree in related fields, such as public health, health education, or human sciences required, teaching credential and master's degree preferred.
- Certification or specialization in sexual health education, preferred, such as human sexuality specialization or sexual health educator certification.
- Thorough background in health knowledge required, including comprehensive sexual health education
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience required.
- Experience with and interest in teaching and coaching a range of students.
- Strong public speaking, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Eager to model and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices and curriculum.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
- Strong computer skills, including Mac and Google platforms.
- Evidence of lifelong learning and professional development.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
- Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
- Occasionally required to use hand to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
- May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
- Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for a few hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
