Bank Street School for Children is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and team-oriented art teacher. The preferred candidate will: be able to collaborate with teachers to create art experiences that expand, enhance, and support the social studies curriculums from PreK-4th grade; advocate for the role of the arts, in particular how the visual arts foster the healthy development of children and various learning styles; and demonstrate an interest in professional growth.
FUNCTIONS:
Teaching push-in integrated art classes using an established social studies curriculum.
Teaching in both the art studio and in classrooms to foster developmental learning through painting, collage, clay, printmaking and 3-D sculpture.
Collaborating with the art department and classroom teachers to develop and implement curriculum reflecting child development, child-centered education, diversity, and social justice.
Writing narrative reports about children’s art experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizing and maintaining art materials in the art studio and classroom
Installing, labeling, and updating exhibits of children’s artwork for all classes.
Documenting lessons.
Making supply orders and working within a given budget.
Participating in regular school division, art department, supervisor, and subject area leader meetings.
Communicating with parents when needed including curriculum night.
Performing additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in art or equivalent education. Master’s degree in art education preferable.
Facility with both two and three-dimensional art materials. Experience with model making, murals, and collaborative art experiences.
Ability to work collaboratively and an interest in an interdisciplinary approach to education.
Teaching experience in visual arts (painting, collage, drawing) and sculpture (clay, wire, paper mache, wood-working) required; 3 years minimum preferred
Knowledge of artistic child development PreK-4th grade.
A portfolio of a wide range of two and three dimensional examples of your work with children to share with the hiring committee
