Heschel Day School, a community Jewish day school, seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, and flexible elementary Judaic Studies teacher for the 2022-23 school year.
The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching Judaic Studies and helping students to understand and appreciate Jewish traditions and culture, the study of Torah, tefillah, and a love of Israel. This person will help our students become responsible citizens of the world and proud representatives of the Jewish people, with an understanding of and commitment to Tikkun Olam. The successful candidate will be professional, collaborative, and possess personal integrity.
Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School is a TK through eighth grade Jewish community day school. Its 76,000 square foot facility includes a gymnasium/auditorium, a library, a lunch pavilion, an Innovation Center/STEAM Lab, elementary and middle school media labs, elementary and middle school science labs, art and music classrooms, newly renovated playgrounds, and an athletic field. The school’s values of tradition, character, and community have been its foundation for over forty-five years and they continue to infuse students, faculty, staff, and parents with shared vision and meaningful purpose. Our academic program emphasizes the development of thinking, problem solving, and creative self-expression which reaches far beyond the rote mastery of basic skills. Responsibilities will include:
• Work cooperatively with colleagues in planning and implementing a creative and exciting Judaic Studies program
• Participate in faculty meetings, department meetings, holiday celebrations and school wide activities
• Establish and maintain standards of excellence for supervision and student engagement
• Promote active participation of all students to ensure a positive and rewarding experience: in the classroom, at play and throughout the school day
• Collaborate with colleagues and administration as needed regarding social, emotional, and physical development of students
• Maintain close partnerships with families, including phone calls, conferences, and written communications
Successful candidates will have:
• Bachelor’s degree, and relevant experience
• Experience with implementation of technology across the curriculum
• Excellent written and oral skills (parent communications, progress reports)
• Flexibility to work in multiple settings and shared facilities
• Desire to engender a love of learning in our students
• Willingness to work as part of multiple teams
• Enthusiasm for ongoing professional development
