Norfolk Collegiate School is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Director of Diversity and Inclusion position with a start date of July 1, 2022.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Norfolk Collegiate is dedicated to being an actively anti-racist institution that creates a safe environment and sense of belonging for all students, families, faculty, and staff. In August 2020, Collegiate launched its multi-year comprehensive Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Initiative as a demonstration of the school’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning community. The initiative will guide students, faculty and staff, and the community to a more thoughtful understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice and how this contributes to the school’s significance and success in the 21st century.
OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

- Leading a dynamic, multi-campus organization in an inaugural leadership role;
- Coordinating DI work for a school with 15 grade levels;
- Identifying and nurturing a community’s growth edges;
- Iterating and pacing change for a supportive and growing community.
Opportunities:
- Leading a school with full board and Head of School support;
- Getting the opportunity to create from a “blank slate” in a “start-up environment related to the role;
- Helping NCS concretize a distributed leadership plan for DI across campuses;
- The opportunity to lead DI work at a premier independent school and to establish it as a “best practice” site.
DESIRED QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A demonstrated commitment to DI work;
- Experience in leading multi-step organizational change;
- A natural teacher and a strong leader;
- Experience in supporting classroom teachers seeking to deepen their inclusive classroom practice;
- Experience leading work related to any grades levels between Pre-K-12th grade.
