Summary
This diverse position supports the mission, values and vision of Mercersburg Academy by serving in a key role in the school’s co-curricular programming. This is a multi-faceted position with responsibilities that span fitness programming and physical education expectations for students. The position works collaboratively with all co-curricular departments.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Fitness and Performance (4 units)
- Develop and synchronize the Lifestyle Fitness program for participating students; initiate, vet, and further relationships with outside fitness resources that can provide appropriate programming for students engaged in Lifestyle Fitness.
- Lead the Elevate program for student-athletes preparing for high level competition and potential collegiate careers.
- Manage Fitness & Performance coaches and student leaders.
- Update and institute essential training bases for fitness & performance coaches; along with coverage for facilities and programming.
- Revise and implement a student intern program.
- Work with PGA leaders and individual students to construct and implement fitness and training programs.
- Conduct preseason meetings with coaches/activity leaders to outline planning and goals for in-season and, when appropriate, off-season activities.
- Consult with and foster individual training plans for students who seek individual training.
- Work with students and train coaches/activity leaders to extend programming into their practices and competitions.
- Provide resources for off-campus training programs during school year and summer breaks
- Develop interconnectivity between fitness activities and non-athletic PGA groups
- Establish and deliver meaningful and robust individualized or group fitness programming available to all students during morning sessions
- Initiate workshops for coaches/leaders to increase fitness and performance knowledge and skills
- Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and resources that provide a broadened and enhanced fitness program for all students
- Coordinate facility coverage of the McDowell Fitness Center
- In conjunction with the Associate Director of Athletics-Athletic Performance, establish and manage the Fitness Center equipment and the budget designated for that facility. Ensure purchases and expenditures are consistent with school policies.

- School programming in one of two areas-academic or residential-to be determined based on the needs of the school and the skill sets of the Fitness and Performance Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, physical education, health education or related field
- Ability to obtain certification through a recognized strength & conditioning and/or physical fitness entity
- A valid driver’s license
