Salary Details:
Salary negotiable based on experience; salary range is for a teacher with 2+ years experience at middle or high school level. Teachers with less experience are welcome to apply and salary offer will be based on education and potential.
The Chorus and Musical Theater Director / Music Teacher is responsible for instructing and preparing students in choral music, planning and directing shows and concerts, and assessing student progress toward music curriculum goals.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Chorus and Musical Theater Director / Music Teacher:
- Directs school musicals in collaboration with Drama and Dance departments.
- Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction as part of an ongoing process of improvement.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Evaluates and grades students' class performance.
- Provides substitute support for other teachers as requested.
- Assumes responsibility for specified duties which include lunch and playground duty and dismissal and arrival duties.
- Attends various school functions throughout the year including performing arts programs, field trips, parent-teacher conferences, and evening events.
- Responsible for the chorus’ appearance, sound and delivery.
- Coordinates and directs chorus concerts throughout the year.
- Increases the skill set of elementary and middle school students to further understand music concepts, music performance, the performing arts, the history of music, and the role of music in other disciplines.
- Plans and is responsible for the chorus’ performance, including behavior, at all concerts, programs, activities, and on all field trips and tours.
- When applicable, approves the design and coordinates the purchase of uniforms or other outfits.

Professional qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree a plus, in Music Education or Vocal Performance from a competitive college or university
- Minimum 4 years’ experience leading elementary, middle or high school chorus, musical theater
- Experience with and/or certified in Orff-Schulwerk, Kodály, or Dalcroze
- Valid California teacher credential or equivalent from out of state preferred; will consider professional experience in lieu of credential
