Whitby seeks an experienced, thoughtful MYP Humanities teacher to join our middle school team of passionate educators in grades 6. We strive to provide excellence in instruction to students with a range of abilities and passions.
At Whitby, students are active participants who drive the learning process through inquiry and reflection. In order to help students engage to their fullest potential, the teachers employ a holistic approach committed to helping all students discover not only the skills, concepts and broader ideas, but also who they are as learners and as people.
Individuals and Societies and English classes focus on analysis and critical thinking as well as research and communication. Ideas presented in classes are rooted in a deep conceptual framework and placed within larger global contexts to help students make sense of the world around them. Students examine key concepts through multiple case studies throughout time and space. Peer and self-assessment, as well as teacher conferencing, are a key components of our program.
A willingness to share and listen with colleagues, respect, and trust when working with others, and a passion for history and the social sciences are a must.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Holds a college degree in elementary/secondary education or a related field
- Has a minimum of three years experience teaching social studies and English in an upper elementary or middle school setting
- While not essential, IBMYP (International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program) experience would be a plus
