The Cedar School is a private day high school in Greenwich, CT, that opened in September 2021. The school serves bright, college-bound students with mild-to-moderate language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia. With a multisensory curriculum, an emphasis on the arts for every student, every day, and a focus on hands-on, experiential learning, the school prepares its students for a rich college experience after graduation. Founded by an experienced educator and school leader, the school is a highly collaborative setting, valuing the input of its faculty, staff, students and families, and committed to creating a deeply engaging intellectual program that truly understands how its students learn. The Cedar School strives to be a national leader in the education of students with language-based learning differences.
The school plans to have approximately 40 students in its second year,and grow to serve between 100-160 students in grades 9-12.
Visual Arts Position:
We are looking for dynamic educators with experience teaching students with language-based learning differences, and who enjoy teaching in a multisensory way, incorporating visuals, music, hands-on activities and experiential learning.
The school is seeking a talented individual who is trained to teach visual arts, including drawing, painting, and digital photography. The Visual Arts Teacher will teach 4-5 classes each semester. Candidates should have demonstrated success teaching to a range of learners and at least two years’ prior teaching experience. Students with language-based learning differences tend to be creative and strong in the arts, and the art teacher will collaborate with the academic teachers to build curricular connections.
Essential Duties:
- Teach 4-5 classes of arts
- Faculty are expected to participate in some school-wide events and have other duties and responsibilities assigned as needed. Faculty are also expected to meet with students on an individual basis.
- As a full-time faculty member, this position also includes serving as an advisor for a small group of students.

Education and Experience:
- Certification is not required, but applicants should have experience working with students with language-based learning differences and should be comfortable helping students who have challenges with reading and writing.
- An undergraduate degree is required. A master's degree or higher is preferred.
- Previous teaching experience is required.
