Brandon Hall School seeks an experienced and dynamic Dorm Parent and Weekend Activities Coordinator for the 2022-23 school year. The full-time position starting July 1, 2022 will play a key role in the daily operation of a strong boarding community. The ideal candidate will have residential life and boarding school experience, demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills, and bring a positive attitude and energy to the campus.

Position Summary
The Dorm Parent and Weekend Activities Coordinator is a community member that plays a key role in the daily operation of a strong boarding community and maintains a residence on campus. The primary focus is creating a safe and supportive boarding environment for students and staff and designing the weekend activity program. They serve as a mentor through encouraging self-discipline and responsible decision-making and offer support for students by embracing all cultures and celebrating differences. As a dorm parent, they serve “in loco parentis” for boarding students and should put student safety and student experience at the forefront of their responsibilities.
Dorm Parent Responsibilities
- Work regularly scheduled shifts including weeknights, weekends, school breaks and during opening/closing of the dorm.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, families, and members of the BHS community.
- Be timely, positive, and ready to engage with students and staff while on duty.
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Have the ability to prioritize needs in an environment that may demand creative problem solving.
- Regularly check email, boarding software, and other Brandon Hall communications throughout the week.
- Wholeheartedly support and live the school’s mission and core values (The Panther Pillars, Leadership, Scholarship and Service).
- Be knowledgeable and proactive in enforcing the policies in the Student and Family Handbook.
- Assist with minor discipline in the dorm by approaching conflict with curiosity instead of adversity. Encourage students to “own” their behavior through constructive mediation and providing additional resources when necessary.
- Embrace the challenges of living in a diverse community and foster relationships with students to appreciate and respect individual differences.
- Work with the duty team to document student issues, concerns, and positive interactions in the boarding software used by the school.
- Aid students in their academic preparation by helping them develop organizational and study skills.
- Help students organize and upkeep their personal living space. Be a positive mentor, lead by example, and teach what it means to maintain good health/hygiene and community living spaces.
- Hold a valid GA driver’s license with the ability to drive students in school vans to events, appointments, etc.
- Actively participate in weekend activities, on and off campus, including community service projects and transportation support.
- Attend scheduled student and faculty and staff meetings as needed.
- Assist with dorm cleanup in common areas, student room inspections, safety drills, and all other responsibilities pertaining to a well-kept, productive operation of the dorm.
- Administer prescription/over the counter medication as necessary.
Weekend Activities Coordinator Responsibilities
- Plan activities and special programming for boarding students throughout the year, including on-campus events, off-campus trips and special dinners.
- Create and manage a weekend activities calendar with events planned at least two weeks in advance.
- Assist with overseeing and managing the student activity budget.
- Work to incorporate cultural awareness, social/emotional learning and physical wellness into student activities and experiences.
- Coordinate with the Dean of Residential Life and Dorm Head to create the residential life duty schedule to arrange necessary drivers and chaperones.
- Create and distribute detailed weekend packets to on-duty staff including meal and check-in times, planned activities, staff scheduled to be on duty, contact phone numbers, and any other pertinent student information.
- Create a student activities committee to involve students in event planning and execution of student-run events.
- Coordinate the celebration of boarding student birthdays.
- Maintain dorm bulletin boards.
- Be present and engaged for on-campus activities as much as possible.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 3+ years residential life experience strongly preferred
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development
