Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of Director of Forensics and Debate. Our nationally recognized Speech and Debate program offers a robust experience for our diverse student population, Grades 6-12, in all aspects of competition. We seek an energetic, visionary, and organizationally talented individual who will model debating excellence for our students, instruct them in state-of-the-art practices, and develop partnerships to expand our program internationally. This appointment will be for July 1, 2022.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop and oversee innovative initiatives to ensure competitive success of the Speech and Debate program
- Develop Speech and Debate curricula that ensure student growth and learning
- Hire and evaluate expert Speech and Debate faculty, coaches, and judges
- Collaborate with division heads and departmental supervisors on program proposals, development, and staffing
- Work closely with Associate Director of Speech to oversee coaches and judges during all interactions with students (classes, practices, and tournaments) to ensure adherence to standards of professionalism and school values
- Organize and implement team recruitment events consistent with school planning procedures
- Coordinate and lead tournament travel, including registration, reservations, on-site logistics, and supervision of students
- Lead a limited number of national travel trips as approved by supervisors
- Teach two Debate classes. Responsible for lesson planning and curriculum development, timely grading practices, clear communication with parents, deans, division directors, and department chair about student progress, daily attendance, and coverage
- Run weekly team practices in Upper and Middle School
- Attend and contribute to professional meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to department, committee, division, and grade-level meetings
- Manage debate annual budget including overseeing student billing; monthly reconciliation of credit card account; monthly submission of reimbursements
- Communication of travel information to parents and faculty; and maintenance of proper student health forms and permissions
- Fulfill all Poly debate league obligations by attending league meetings and authorizing payment of membership dues
