Purpose Statement
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and accomplished middle school teacher who will teach 6th-grade math and 7th-grade pre-algebra, serve as an advisor, and participate in middle school activities that support the divisional program. The candidate will be experienced in numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is academically rigorous as well as engaging, lively, and communication-based. Classroom management and digital citizenship require close attention and instruction, and therefore experience teaching middle school are essential.
Responsibilities of a Middle School Math Teacher:
The School’s faculty strives to set for its students an example of high ethical standards, moral behavior, and devotion to excellence. This responsibility involves the following:
To maintain a climate of trust and mutual respect which encourages students to
risk the questions, opinions, and mistakes necessary to learn.
To offer students clear educational objectives for each course supported by
appropriate assignments, activities and evaluation.
To accurately assess each student’s progress and inform the student, the parents,
the academic advisor, and the appropriate administrator immediately of any
serious difficulty.
To show concern for and nurture the student’s intellectual, social, emotional,
ethical, and aesthetic development.
A teacher’s effectiveness in the programs of the School includes various activities in
addition to teaching and classroom duties, such as readiness to act as an advisor, participation in and support of grade-level activities, giving extra help to students who
need it, communication of suggestions and criticism directly to the administration,
encouragement of the efforts of colleagues, concern for the appearance of the
classroom and of the grounds, promptness in meeting all School obligations (arrival in
good time, meeting classes, returning papers, and other middle school duties), and
flexibility and cooperation in furthering academic or extracurricular programs.
Attendance at School activities, such as plays, concerts, athletic events, etc., is very
strongly encouraged. Regular attendance at faculty meetings and open houses is
expected and required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in math or related subject
Previous experience teaching Math at the middle school level
Proficiency with technology
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in related subject or education; California Single Subject
Teaching Credential – Math
