F/T High School (Upper School) English Teacher
Academic Year 2022-2023 (1.0 FTE)
Purpose Statement
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and accomplished high school teacher who can
teach a range of courses in the English Department, including but not limited to teaching college
prep English Language Learning (ELL) classes and 9th-11th grade English courses. They will be
experienced in numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is academically rigorous as
well as engaging, lively, and communication-based. In addition to classroom teaching, all
teachers:
Serve as student advisors
Moderate a co-curricular activity
Participate in Upper School activities that support the boarding and day programs of The
School
Participate in professional learning communities
Attend various School activities, such as plays, concerts, athletic events, etc.
Attend all faculty meetings and Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings
Support admissions events
Participate once a semester in retreats and/or experiential learning outside of the
classroom
Responsibilities of an Upper School Teacher
The School’s faculty strives to set for its students an example of high ethical standards, moral
behavior, and devotion to excellence. This responsibility involves the following:
Maintains a climate of trust and mutual respect which encourages students to risk the
questions, the opinions and mistakes necessary to learn.
Offers students clear educational objectives for each course supported by appropriate
assignments, activities and evaluation.
Accurately assesses each student’s progress and inform the student, the parents, the
academic mentor and the appropriate administrator immediately of any serious
difficulty.
Shows concern for and nurtures the student’s intellectual, social, emotional, ethical, and
aesthetic development.
Works collaboratively with colleagues
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English or related discipline
Previous experience teaching a variety of English courses at the high school level
Proficiency with technology
Experience designing content for and delivering a course through an LMS
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in related subject or education; California Single Subject Teaching
Credential
Experience working with ELL and international students
