Moravian Academy is seeking an Assistant Director to help lead the Downtown Campus of 380 students in grades PS-8. This position begins July 1, 2022.
Position Description
The Assistant Director is a full-time, non-teaching administrator at the Moravian Academy Downtown Campus, for grades Preschool through 8, who carries a principal or collaborative responsibility for the following roles: building leader, community steward, outstanding communicator, problem-solver, and supportive leader for faculty and students. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of the Downtown Campus, serves as second in the chain of command for safety and security, and is a member of the student support team and campus leadership team. This is a 12-month position.
The effective administrator will have a strong background in the daily life of independent schools and experience supporting classrooms that integrate social, emotional, and academic learning through Developmental Designs, Responsive Classrooms, or similar approaches. Experience with student information systems such as Blackbaud, Google Classroom, Apple products, Seesaw, and other cloud-based educational platforms will be important. Effective administrators will exhibit their passion and joy for working with children, their commitment to supporting colleagues, students, and their families, outstanding communication skills and follow-up, and an enthusiasm for keeping up with current and future practices in student-centered, culturally responsive education.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide visible leadership that sets the culture and tone for the campus, in partnership with the campus Director.
- Work collaboratively with the Downtown Campus Director to establish a safe and secure learning environment for students, planning for emergencies with staff and security.
- Develop and maintain positive, constructive, and professional partnerships with all community members including faculty, staff, students, and families.
- Attend to the day-to-day operations including scheduling, supervision and evaluation, attendance, and student conduct.
- Assist with developing and administering disciplinary procedures according to the school’s policies.
- Contribute to campus announcements, blogging, chapel, assemblies, and weekly community newsletters.
- Assist in planning and providing professional development for faculty and staff, as well as educational opportunities for parents.
- Support teacher’s digital communication with parents (myMA course pages, Google sites, SeeSaw, sharing projects, etc.), including solutions for remote instruction.
- Meet weekly with the campus Director to report and review the overall status and progress of the campus.
- Attend grade level/department, collaborative planning, student support, and other meetings as required or deemed necessary.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field. A Master’s is preferred.
- At least 5 years of teaching experience. At least 2 years in educational leadership is advantageous.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a previous background in independent schools.
- Proficiency in Spanish and/or experience in working in a language immersion environment is beneficial but not required.
