Amazing opportunity to be part of a team that is creating an inquiry-based curriculum in a unique school. We are opening our doors in Fall 2022 and are looking for innovative and experienced educators to teach our student-athletes. These individuals need to be flexible self-starters who embrace the opportunity to be part of creating a dynamic new school.
Lovell Academy, located in Rockland, MA is a new boarding school specifically designed to educate 132 elite hockey student-athletes, grades 8-PG. At Lovell, academics and athletics reinforce and support each student’s development without compromising the quality or depth of either component. We aim to educate the whole student and have created a program and schedule that maximizes the opportunities for academic, athletic, and personal growth. To that end, we are currently pursuing International Baccalaureate candidacy and will be establishing our curriculum in line with our intention to be an authorized IB DP World School in five years.
Summary
Lovell Academy’s Teaching Faculty is committed to academic excellence, is passionate about teaching and working with adolescents, creates a classroom environment that facilitates learning and critical thinking and delivers innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support student learning through innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum
- Be aware of and coordinate teaching objectives, materials, methods, and means of assessment used within the department
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress
- Provide ideas for agenda items for possible inclusion in faculty and department meetings
- Articulate the department's strategies in achieving the mission and goals of the school and work with colleagues to set departmental objectives, assessments, and policies accordingly
- Assist in the search for and evaluation of candidates to fill vacancies within the department
- Contribute to the preparation of the annual departmental budget for the purchase of additional texts, supplies, and equipment, and administer the budget in cooperation with the department and the Director of Academics
- Participate in ongoing professional development
- Be open to interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues and outside institutions
- To be present and accessible to students and colleagues during school hours
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Demonstrate content knowledge and pedagogic skill relative to English instruction.
- Experience in collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development and best practices
- Experience using a variety of pedagogical approaches, especially inquiry-based learning
- Genuine commitment to professional development in both pedagogy and content area
- Willingness to be involved in the school community beyond the classroom setting
- Appreciation and respect for the role athletics play in a young person’s development
- Proficiency in educational technology and learning management systems
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as an enthusiasm for the school’s mission
Qualifications or Comparable Experience
- Master’s Degree with a minimum of five years teaching English
- Entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to interdisciplinary work.
- IB experience preferred.
- Willingness to collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- While performing the responsibilities the employee is required to talk and hear and have close, distant and peripheral vision
- The role requires standing, sitting, reaching and light lifting
- Typical work hours are limited to Monday through Friday, but additional days/hours are required at times depending on the demands of the department and School events.
