Position Overview
The successful candidate for the computer science position will possess a comprehensive understanding of current technologies, applications, and thinking that comprise the computer sciences, all the while keeping the needs and the interests of the elementary and middle school students in mind. The computer science teacher will oversee the program development and implementation of a comprehensive K-9 computer science program, teaching the computer science offerings in the upper grades. The successful candidate will demonstrate successful collaboration skills while also being able to work independently with minimal oversight. The ideal candidate embraces the ever-changing nature of technology; encourages students to explore and experiment while they dive into technique; and is eager to try new and creative approaches to teaching and learning. This position will include residential life responsibilities.
The position will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Teach approximately five computer science courses across grades K-9.
- Develop grade level computer science courses as needed to complete our K-9 technology curriculum.
- Identify needed hardware and software needed to support course curriculum.
- Create an environment that encourages creative and independent use of computer science skills throughout the school
- Model effective uses of current and new instructional technology inside and outside the classroom for teachers and students
- Instruct users in the appropriate uses of technology in an educational environment.
Qualifications
- A passion for independent school education as well as the professionalism, energy, and commitment necessary to achieve the responsibilities of this position.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- A. in a computer science content area preferred. Advanced degree in education, computer science, or a related field ideal.
- Experience teaching programming, preferably in a middle school or upper elementary setting.
- Familiarity teaching programs such as Scratch, Finch Robot, Python and Java.
- Experience with robotics, 3D printing, or related fields.
