The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a part-time Technical Theatre Director for the 2022-23 school year. The school seeks to appoint a Technical Director in support of production and technology across all the performing arts departments (theatre, dance, and music), as well as other areas of school life. The Technical Theatre Director will be a member of the Theatre department and report directly to the Theatre Department Chair. The position requires general knowledge in theater technology (design, lighting, sound, stagecraft, scenic construction, scenic painting, stage management), with additional knowledge and/or interest in current and emerging theatre and production technology helpful. The ability to supervise students in safe practices of scenic construction is a must.
A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills; will value progressive, student-centered education; will demonstrate an ability to make strong connections with students; will be passionate about teaching creative students with a variety of learning styles in a boarding and day school environment; and will have experience in differentiating and working in multiple modalities. Specific Responsibilities for this Position Include:
Potential responsibilities include classroom teaching, production support, and design, support for additional performing arts events, A/V set-up and maintenance, and training students in the use of equipment. There is some flexibility to allow for additional responsibilities relating to specific areas of interest, such as production management, multimedia design, etc.
- Serve as Technical Director for our fall, spring, and high school drama festival shows
- Oversee scenic designs for all productions in collaboration with the Director
- Construction for all productions
- Assist with all technical aspects of theatre, dance, and music department productions including scenery, props, lighting, sound, painting, costumes, stage management, and publicity for fall and spring mainstage shows, high-school drama festival
- Attend department and production meetings
- Work directly with student technicians and supervise the booth crew
- Maintain rehearsal notes during mainstage productions
- Maintain the scenic shop
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts in technical theatre or equivalent required, or relevant professional experience and interest in education
- Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to strong collaboration across and within departments
- Ability and interest in making strong connections with students
- Ability to work within a team to meet production goals

- Passion for teaching creative students with a variety of learning styles
