Position Description
Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer, the Director of Annual Giving will oversee the management and execution of the Churchill School and Center’s annual giving campaigns. The Director of Annual Giving will be a critical part of the Philanthropy and Communications team, an ambassador for the school and the department, and will have frequent contact with a diverse set of stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a high level of discretion and confidentiality are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to create personal and consistent messaging and positive donor experiences.
- As an ambassador for the school and the department of Philanthropy and Communications, emphasize to each and every member of our community, whether they are giving of time, talent, or dollars, that their involvement is critical to making all we do possible.
- Manage the annual fund (Churchill Fund) campaign.
- Work with the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer to develop a theme for the fall and spring solicitations;
- coordinate mail and email campaigns;
- monitor the flow of gifts;
- enter gifts into our database;
- formulate strategies to follow up with donors as necessary;
- and craft and send gift acknowledgments.
- Maintain accurate record keeping in Raiser’s Edge which includes but is not limited to gift and data entry, reporting, and reconciling gift reports with the business office.
- Conduct donor research to determine donor interests and capacity.
- Actively participate in prospect strategy meetings and work with the Chief Philanthropy and Communications Officer and Head of School to develop outreach and cultivation plans for prospects.
- Produce philanthropy-related collateral.
- Craft and send gift acknowledgments.
- Assist with the preparation and production of the annual report as needed.
- Assist with organizing special events. This may include pulling lists and reports, entering event revenue and donations into the database and/or event software, and assisting with guest registration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 5-7 years of philanthropy and fundraising experience including demonstrated success in individual giving, corporate sponsorships, alumni giving, and special event fundraising
- Experience with fundraising and data management systems, i.e., Raiser’s Edge, Mailchimp
- Experience with prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, relationship building, and stewardship
- Positive people-centered way of interacting with others
- Excellent listening skills
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to write quickly and in a range of styles that appeal to different audiences
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills
- Exceptional ability to think creatively and unconventionally/see things from different perspectives

- Detail-oriented, organized, ability to innovate, work efficiently and independently, and with a broad range of constituencies
- Well-disciplined and self-motivated, able to work with a high degree of independence as well as part of a team

- Ability to effectively identify, analyze, and solve problems
- Excellent time management skills and a high degree of organization, careful attention to detail, ability to multitask, and to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
