Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School and Center, K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a full-time Middle School Art Assistant Teacher for immediate hire. The Assistant Teacher position involves teaching in collaboration with the Middle School Art Head Teacher in grades 6, 7, and 8. Assistant Teachers must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. They should also have a strong desire to work with middle school students, a willingness and ability to work collaboratively with a team, and should be comfortable working in a variety of media including drawing, painting and ceramics. Candidates with experience and those in the process of obtaining a Master's Degree in Special Education or a relevant content area are given preference. Assistants must also possess a New York State Teaching Assistant Certification or be willing to obtain one.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Work collaboratively with cooperating Head Teacher and other related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, projects & activities
- Support students by scaffolding in-class assignments, tasks and projects

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
- BA or BS Degree (Degree in Secondary Education, Special Education or related field preferred)
- Experience working with, mentoring, supervising and/or building positive relationships with middle school aged children
- Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
- Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology in the classroom
- Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
- Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
