St. Luke’s School seeks a talented Fabrication Lab Technician for a one-year Fellowship with its innovative designLab: a cross-divisional, interdisciplinary hub for experiential learning.
Through cutting edge technologies and project based learning, the St. Luke's designLab sets the example of a classroom experience driven by public purpose, real world problem solving, and the practical application of skills. Consisting of spaces for experimentation that include a brand new, state-of-the-art, 4000+ sq ft digital and physical fabrication lab; a computer science and engineering curriculum offering courses that include computer programming, robotics, and mechanical engineering; and signature student experiences such as the Maker’s Club, Father/Daughter Maker Nights, and an annual Middle & High School Hackathon, the designLab seeks to develop students’ creative problem solving abilities.
With this Fellowship, the designLab Tech will seize a rare opportunity to hone their skills in an innovative program and school community, with access to top-of-the-line resources and mentorship, and launch into a field that is exploding in popularity and impact on the educational landscape. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position with excellent benefits including medical, dental, and life insurance as well as an employer-matching retirement savings plan.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

Ensure a safe, actively monitored, and well-maintained fabrication lab for use by all St. Luke’s community members.

Maintain, clean, and organize the Lab’s space, tools, equipment, and supplies, including inventory management and purchasing.

Support designLab faculty colleagues via prefabrication and prep of their course materials; review and editing of STL/SVG/DXF files, and monitoring of execution and output.

Work with the school’s technology staff to ensure the Lab’s computers and mobile devices have appropriate software installed, updated, and working properly.

Support other active designLab projects with ongoing backup, print monitoring, etc.

Create template files in Adobe illustrator, Google Slides and Onshape.

Provide resources and support for community classes, clubs, and other program experiences such as designLab summer camps, the St. Luke’s Hackathon, Open Maker Nights, etc.

Serve as an Assistant Teacher to an experienced faculty colleague for one middle school designLab class TBD.

Assist with supervisory duties, such as study hall proctoring, lunchroom supervision, and chaperoning events.

Potentially serve as co-advisor for a group of 6 to 8 students.

Qualifications
-
Understanding of and enjoyment in working with middle and high school-aged adolescents
-
Experience using tools and technology creatively, especially fabrication technologies such as 3D printers, CO2 lasers, CNC routers, and general woodshop materials and power tools

Experience modeling objects in 2D and 3D, prototyping, and physical computing

Familiarity with CAD software required; with Arduino and Lego Ev3 helpful but not essential

Ability to quickly develop expertise with and support new systems, software, and tools

Strong cultural competency skills, with demonstrated commitment to furthering an equitable and inclusive community that supports a strong sense of belonging
